Synopsis | This is an unusual publication in several ways: the author adds her name to a very short list of ladies who have written books on bowls and, to my knowledge, it's the first in this select group where the author has also provided the humorous illustrations; it comes from Canada - a rare event in itself; and the content - a miscellany of technical advice, useful hints and a good helping of humour - is unconventional when compared with the majority of bowls books.
On-Kow wrote the book for those who discover the joy of being a bowler and wish to improve their game, and interviewed over 30 bowlers who were willing to share their bowls' experiences. The book includes personal stories intermingled with topics such as choice of bowls, skills, shots, strategies, tactics, team play and amusing stories. To order a copy please send your name, address and a cheque or money order for CD$21, including post and packing within Canada or CD$27 including post and packing outside Canada, made payable to Bowls BC to: On-Kow Au 8292 Osler Street Vancouver BC V6P 4E2 Canada For personal callers copies of the book are available from three locations: For further information please On-Kow. All proceeds from the sales of this book are given to Bowls British Columbia's 'Athletic Development Programs' to sponsor two projects: to set up a lawn bowls library and to make video tapes of tournaments and coaching. |
