| Synopsis | Zoo Lake, Johannesburg, provided the setting for the Third World Bowls Championships from 18 February to 6 March, 1976. Sixteen countries competed in singles, pairs, triples and fours, with the Leonard Trophy being awarded to the country gaining the most points in the four competitions - two points being awarded for a win and one for a tie in all matches except singles where the winner received one point. The event proved to be an outstanding success for the home nation with their bowlers making a clean sweep of all four events, their team thereby taking the Leonard Trophy with maximum points.
