Synopsis | Although some of the events and names are factually based, this is a purely fictional story about Don Shepherd who grew up in Cobar, a small dusty mining town in New South Wales, Australia and became interested in bowls while still a boy. The book's main thread focuses on Don's bowling exploits and is woven around a story involving emigration to an island in the South West Pacific, his work in the setting up and maintenance of a new power station, drilling for gold, the restoration and re-opening of a bowling green and not a little romance!
