Synopsis Few bowls books are available that deal solely with coaching and this is the only one I've come across aimed specifically at the beginner coach. The following text is an edited version of the introduction.

Coaching Lawn Bowls - A Manual for Beginner Coaches is not intended to be an exhaustive coverage of the coaching of lawn bowls, but one of three manuals, the other two, already published, being: National Manual for Coaches Volume 1 and National Manual for Coaches Volume 2 - Advanced.

Whilst integrated into the instructional material already in existence, this manual has been written with two specific aims:

  • As a learning aid to coaches themselves, some of whom have never played the game of lawn bowls
  • As a coaching instructional aid to all coaches to enable them to teach the simple basic requirements to beginners, particularly juniors
The keynote of this manual is simplicity. More advanced coaching information can be obtained from the manuals mentioned above. Negatives have been deliberately avoided such as "Don't do this . . ."

After absorbing the contents of the manual, those using it will attain great personal satisfaction from having brought beginners to a point of playing the wonderful game of lawn bowls in such a way as to obtain real enjoyment from the basic skills they have learnt.
