Synopsis | Bowls - My Way is an apt title and one of a relatively small number of bowls books written in the first person. Peter Carter, the author, leaves no doubt in the reader's mind that he is a keen and skilful bowler and counts the Sussex County Champion of Champions in 2011 and 2013 as his best personal achievements.
The book is aimed primarily at club bowlers who have been bowling for about two years and wish to progress in terms of skills and rink order. More experienced bowlers will also find it of value as a stimulus in a number of areas which comprise:
Peter admits to readers perhaps not agreeing with everything he's written and as a coach myself I find a few of his statements contentious, especially in the stance and delivery section. However, you'll find that a quick browse through the videos of leading professional bowlers on YouTube reveals a miscellany of different stances and delivery actions; so, to each his own! In conclusion Bowls - My Way, though controversial in parts, has much to recommend it. For example, there are few, if any, publications that I'm aware of which analyse singles and team play so thoroughly. |
