Synopsis This is the eleventh edition of the booklet previously published by the English Bowling Association (EBA) and now compiled by Bowls England which was formed in 2008 from the unification of the English Women's Bowling Association and the EBA. Curiously omitting the title from the front cover its 22 pages include three chapters arranged as follows:

Chapter 1 - Introduction: Tradition; Your club; Your county association; Bowls England; British Isles Bowls Council; World Bowls Board

Chapter 2 - The basics of the game: The green; Yourself; Etiquette; Dress; The game of bowls

Chapter 3 - Instructions for beginners: Delivering the jack; Delivering the bowl; Bias; Choice of bowl

The rules of singles, pairs, triples and fours are then summarised and explanations of the responsibilities of each player in a fours described. Position on the mat, stance, delivery and follow-through are also covered with 'matchstick-men' diagrams acting as handy reminders. A glossary of 66 bowling terms and 13 instructions from a skip complete this useful booklet.
